preparation and separation (anxiety)

So something happened and all of a sudden, the last 4 months have completely passed by and now, in less than 2 weeks i’ll be setting off for Nepal for 10 months.

I’ve had a wonderful summer spending time with old friends, meeting wonderful new ones, and sucking every last drop I can out of San Francisco.  In fact, I’ve spent more time doing this than actually preparing for my trip. I mean don’t get me wrong, I’ve been making lists and buying stuff (probably too much…as it turns out, i cannot actually bring the kitchen sink with me) and trying to prepare. However, the bags from target, my piles of clothes and everything else have just been sitting next to my empty suitcases.

Now that I have 1 day before moving out of my apartment, I’m finally getting to this seemingly simple, but daunting task. How do I pack for a year and keep it down to 50 pounds a bag? When it comes down to it, how do i decide what to leave behind as I, by the evidence of the heaping piles, have clearly planned to bring too much. I’m sure I will arrive in Kathmandu and have forgotten something important and brought something completely irrelevant. But as does everything, it will work itself out.

Tomorrow I head to South Caroline to spend 5 days at the beach with my family. 5 days of munchkins, sun and relaxation are much needed after the last few fun filled, nonstop months.

A big thank you to all of my friends who have helped me get ready to leave and for partaking in some awesome send off events. The lack of sleep and loss of voice, are totally worth it! Now…get your plane tickets to come visit me!
