At the end of March, I ran a wearable art workshop with LASANAA, an alternative art space. The workshop brought together local artists and fashion designers and had them combine their skills to create artwork that was outside of each of their norms. As a way to push their boundaries, traditional fabrics were not to be used and the groups found and used materials from their surroundings. The overall inspiration and theme of the workshop was the Strength of Women (which coincided with the celebration of the International Women’s Day).
This was the first part of a two part workshop, with the continuation being this weekend as a part of the Nepal International Indigenous Film Festival (NIIFF), which has the theme of the strength of indigenous women. Many of the same artists and fashion designers will be participating in this second portion along with some new faces, including some indigenous women knitters. The pieces from the part one will be on display and one new piece will be created by the whole group, with knitting as a main technique.
Check out the photos below to see how the first part of the workshop went.
